EU project InShaPe – next innovation leap in metal-based additive manufacturing

Today I had the great opportunity to give insights into the latest results of the #EUProjectInShaPe at the LANE Conference.
We were able to conduct a study in which we designed a laser beam shape optimized for a defined melt pool shape and validated it in a melting process. Many thanks to my coauthors Robin Prudlik, Vijaya Holla, Philipp Kopp, Richard O., Thomas Stoll, Stefan Kollmannsberger, and Katrin Wudy.

#EUprojectInShaPe at the ICUIL 2024 conference in Cozumel (Mexico).
SILIOS Technologies has presented the CMS-SNW camera derived from the InShape project VIS/NIR cameras to many of the largest Intense Laser Labs worldwide. Some of these Labs have Departments involved in 3D Metal additive manufacturing Laser process but also on study of thermal behaviour of pieces under compression and other types of schocks as well as full spectral characterisation of femtosecond beams at each shot.
It has been a great opportunity to disseminate #EUprojectInShaPe results to other scientific & industrial communities and applications.

What amazing days!
I had the honor of being invited as a speaker at the #AMexcellence Days at the F1 Sauber Technologies AG headquarters in Switzerland. This event was a fantastic opportunity to connect with friends, clients, and partners.
During the presentations, we shared AENIUM ’s new developments, and the implementation of the ambitious growth plan for technological investment in metal additive manufacturing and advanced manufacturing at the company, as well as advancements in LASER beam shaping technology.
I would like to thank EOS for the invitation and excellent event organization, and Michael Jan Galba for his invaluable assistance and constant innovation in advanced LASER manufacturing.

In many industrial sectors, such as in the automotive industry, in #aerospace or in the #energy sector, the demand for special #metalcomponents that are light and have a high strength is increasing. Modern #gas turbines, for example, require extremely stable and at the same time lightweight heat shields. An important #manufacturing process for this is the powder-bed fusion process of metals using laser beam (PBF-LB/M). Depending on the application, the process is not yet always competitive compared with conventional production in terms of unit costs. The research and innovation project #InShaPe, funded by the EU with EUR 6.8 million, aims to make a decisive contribution to the further development of the technology. Under the coordination of Prof. Dr.-Ing. Katrin Wudy from the TUM School of Engineering and Design #TUMED at the Technical University of Munich ten partners from seven countries are working together on the project.
